The Practice Game GUARANTEED to Improve Your MBE Score

I was speaking to an attorney recently who scored in the 99th percentile on the MBE and I asked what his biggest tip for bar takers was. He explained to me that the most important thing about practice questions is that you need to make sure you're actually getting questions right for the RIGHT reasons. Students need to identify their weak and drive those rules home as they approach exam day.

With that in mind, he explained that he used a relatively simple practice game to help drive these two points home. This student credited this practice game with helping to skyrocket his MBE score.

This practice game works as follows:

  1. Next to every answer that you’re FULLY CONFIDENT in, write a “+1”.
  2. Next to every answer that you’re NOT CONFIDENT in, write a “-1”
  3. If you are between two answers, write a “½”.
  4. When tallying up your score for a set of practice set, don’t just focus on how many questions you got write… count up your PLUS/MINUS Score as well.
  5. Subtract 1 from your score for
    1. Any +1s you got wrong
    2. Any questions you marked -1, regardless of whether you got the question right or wrong.
    3. Write out the rules for:
    1. Any +1s you got wrong
    2. Any questions you marked -1
    3. Any questions you marked ½
  6. Aim for a PLUS/MINUS score of around 60%.
This game will help you identify your weakest areas and guarantee that you’re getting questions right for the RIGHT reasons. Suring up your methodology is the only way to see consistent improvement in your scores.
